Walk the Walk Urges UK to Get Moving for MoonWalk London 2026

Cancer charity Walk the Walk is encouraging people across the UK to get active and join its flagship fundraising event, The MoonWalk London, ahead of National Walking Day on Wednesday, 1st April 2026.

The MoonWalk London, famous for its empowering atmosphere and participants’ creatively decorated bras, will take place on the evening and night of Saturday, 16th May 2026. The event starts and finishes at Clapham Common in south London. Walkers can choose from a 10K distance, 15.1 miles (Half Moon), or the full 26.2-mile marathon. Participants pass some of London’s most iconic landmarks, many illuminated in pink to highlight the cause. The event raises vital funds and awareness for people affected by breast cancer and other cancers, supporting research, care, prevention, early diagnosis, and the promotion of healthier lifestyles.

With National Walking Day providing a timely opportunity, Walk the Walk is inviting both experienced walkers and beginners to begin training. Regular walking offers well-being benefits, including improved physical health, mental resilience, and increased stamina for the May challenge.

Founded in 1996, Walk the Walk has raised over £144 million since its inception and is now the UK’s largest grant-making breast cancer charity. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the charity. To celebrate, The MoonWalk London 2026 will feature a nostalgic Neon 90s theme, reflecting the decade of the charity’s founding. Walkers are encouraged to wear bold retro outfits, brightly coloured bra T-shirts, and plenty of vibrant flair as they unite against cancer.

Nina Barough CBE, founder of Walk the Walk, said: “Walking is the most simple, accessible, transformative form of exercise there is. Every step our supporters take, today and in the lead-up to The MoonWalk London, helps us move closer to our goal of supporting research, care, and the mission against beating breast and other cancers.

With eight weeks remaining, and National Walking Day coming up, now is the perfect time to start walking and join our incredible community.”

For 2026, the charity has introduced a New Moon 10K option, making the event more inclusive for those seeking a shorter challenge. Both in-person and virtual participation are available, allowing people to walk anywhere they choose. To boost sign-ups, Walk the Walk offered discounts ahead of National Walking Day, including £10 off Full Moon and Half Moon entries until 31st March, and £5 off the 10K. Entry fees start at £19.99 for the 10K and £49.95 for longer distances, with a minimum fundraising commitment of £200 for most options.

The MoonWalk stands out for its overnight format, community spirit, and non-competitive focus. Thousands join annually, creating streets lit in pink and a sea of decorated bras symbolising solidarity and hope. Walk the Walk continues to champion power walking as a way to support cancer causes while promoting personal health. Its events have inspired global participation and significant donations to breast cancer efforts.
