The UK’s leading shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, has completed the design and installation of 90 bespoke stainless steel units with 10 mm glass at the newly launched Sultan Nazrin Shah Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre in Perak, Malaysia.

Officially opened on 16th June 2026 by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the state-of-the-art facility represents a significant advancement in rehabilitation healthcare within the region. Combining cutting-edge neuro-robotic and cybernics technologies, the centre is designed to support patients recovering from serious injuries and illnesses through innovative and integrated treatment programmes.

Widely regarded as the largest rehabilitation centre of its kind in Southeast Asia, the facility has the capacity to treat up to 700 patients at any one time and approximately 3,000 patients each year. It spans a 38.47-acre site as part of a wider development and comprises 13 main blocks, offering around 151 types of services that integrate neuro-robotics, cybernetics, neuromodulation, and structured return-to-work programmes.

Speaking at the launch, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan highlighted the centre’s early impact, stating: “Since commencing operations in July 2025, a total of 1,095 patients have received treatment, covering major cases such as accidents, occupational diseases, spinal cord injuries, and non-communicable diseases such as stroke.” Ramanan added that demand for such services is expected to grow, with PERKESO claims projected to rise significantly due to expanded social protection schemes.

The landmark development has been recognised not only for its medical innovation but also for its commitment to sustainability. Blending heritage-inspired architecture with forward-thinking design principles, the building has achieved Platinum GreenRE certification, the highest level of recognition under Malaysia’s Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association green building rating system. Its design draws inspiration from traditional Malay heritage craft such as Tekat Timbul Benang Emas.

Roman’s 90 tailored stainless steel shower units, finished with 10 mm glass, form part of the centre’s distinctive contemporary aesthetic and contribute to the sleek, futuristic environment that reflects its pioneering approach to patient care. As the UK’s largest shower manufacturer, with production based in the North East of England, Roman has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality custom solutions across international projects.

David Osborne, CEO of Roman, commented: “We are delighted to have played a role in the delivery of such an exceptional and transformative project. The Sultan Nazrin Shah Perkeso Rehabilitation Centre represents the future of rehabilitation healthcare, and we are incredibly proud that our expertise and bespoke solutions have contributed to this world-class facility.”

The centre positions Malaysia as a potential regional leader in advanced rehabilitation. Industry observers note that facilities of this kind combine clinical excellence with sustainable design, creating environments that promote both physical recovery and patient dignity. Roman’s involvement underscores the role of specialist British manufacturing in supporting global healthcare infrastructure projects, with the collaboration demonstrating how targeted expertise in accessible shower solutions can enhance the overall patient experience in modern healthcare settings.
