Thousands Join Neon Night Walk for Breast Cancer Charity in London

Quick summary: The iconic MoonWalk London overnight event successfully marked its 30th anniversary as thousands of walkers completed long distance challenges to raise vital funds for breast cancer causes. Organized by the charity Walk the Walk, the dynamic neon themed event has accumulated over 148 million pounds since its inception to finance groundbreaking research, promote early diagnosis awareness, and support individuals living with cancer. This milestone highlights a significant contribution to public policy and healthcare practice by actively demonstrating how communal exercise and integrated care initiatives can foster healthier lifestyles and improve long term national well being.

Thousands of walkers in decorated bras and bra t-shirts filled the streets of London overnight on Saturday, 16th May 2026, as The MoonWalk London returned with a vibrant “Neon 90s” theme, bringing colour, music and nostalgia to the capital.

Organised by cancer charity Walk the Walk, the iconic overnight event saw women, men and young people take on either the 10K, 15.1-mile Half Moon Plus or the 26.2-mile Full Moon challenge, with all distances starting and finishing at Clapham Common. The route passed many of London’s most famous landmarks, several of which turned pink in support of the event.

A 30-year milestone

The event held special significance as Walk the Walk celebrated its 30th anniversary, inspired by the decade in which the charity was founded. Walkers embraced the occasion with neon outfits and retro-inspired fancy dress, lighting up the capital throughout the night.

Founder and Trustee Nina Barough CBE reflected: “Walk the Walk has always been about bringing people together for the good of all, and Saturday’s MoonWalk London was no exception. It was a celebration of a 30-year movement which has been at the forefront of funding groundbreaking research and instrumental in how breast cancer is diagnosed and treated today. The charity has also raised incredible awareness about the importance of integrated care and of course encouraging everyone to start walking as an important way of helping to keep our nation healthy. The MoonWalk on Saturday was a dynamic mix of neon energy and excitement as very loyal and long-supporting walkers and volunteers welcomed many new moonwalkers eager to be a part of the action. Together everyone Walked the Walk, celebrating three very successful decades and the start of a new era for the charity!”

  • TV and radio presenter Gaby Roslin, completing her fifth MoonWalk
  • David Ames, best known for his role as Dominic Copeland in Holby City, completing his sixth MoonWalk

Virtual participation and fundraising impact

Walkers from across the UK also took part virtually, completing their MoonWalk challenges in a location of their choice. Since the first MoonWalk in 1998, Walk the Walk has raised more than £148 million for breast and other cancer causes. Funds support research, those living with cancer, early diagnosis awareness, and healthier lifestyles through walking and exercise.

Organisers noted strong turnout despite variable overnight conditions, with the “Neon 90s” theme resonating well among both veteran walkers and first-timers. The inclusion of a 10K option made the challenge accessible to a broader range of abilities while maintaining the event’s signature overnight format.
