Searches for Scotland Weekend Breaks Surge as Celebrity Traitors Series 2 Nears

UK Google searches for “Scotland weekend break” have risen by 101% in the past week, according to Parkdean Resorts, while searches for “traitors castle” increased by 139% over the past month.

The BBC show is filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands and has previously drawn attention to the region’s dramatic scenery. Ahead of the second series of Celebrity Traitors returning next week, Parkdean Resorts has highlighted five Scottish Highland castles for visitors seeking a similar atmosphere.

Ardross Castle, Ross and Cromarty, Highlands

Ardross Castle became widely recognised as the home of The Traitors, but it was originally designed and built as a grand private residence and sporting estate in the 19th century.

Its Baronial style gives the castle the dramatic, medieval appearance associated with the programme, including its distinctive turrets. The castle is not open year round but can be booked as a venue for corporate events and weddings.

Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness, Highlands

Located southwest of Inverness, Urquhart Castle has more than a thousand years of history and changed hands between the Scots and English during the Wars of Independence.

Overlooking Loch Ness, the castle is a popular tourist destination for visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness monster.

Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Highlands

Dunrobin Castle, north of Inverness, is known for its French chateau style and fairytale appearance. Dating back to the early 1300s, the residence has nearly 200 rooms and is one of Britain’s continuously inhabited residences.

Overlooking the Moray Firth, the castle has a museum, gardens and falconry displays held twice daily.

Brodie Castle, Moray, Highlands

Brodie Castle dates back to the 16th century and was home to Clan Brodie for more than 400 years.

Visitors can explore its architecture, art and furniture, as well as the surrounding Moray countryside and gardens, which are particularly known for their display of daffodils in spring. The estate also has an adventure playground and a nature trail.

Cawdor Castle, Nairnshire, Highlands

Cawdor Castle, east of Inverness, was built in the 14th century and was home to the Thanes of Cawdor.

The castle is particularly associated with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, making it a notable destination for visitors interested in history and literature. Its castle and gardens are open to the public for most of the year, while the estate also has a nine hole golf course.

Speaking about the growing popularity of Scottish getaways, a spokesperson for Parkdean Resorts said: “Scotland is continuing to grow in popularity as a holiday destination, with more Brits either discovering it for the first time or returning to experience everything it has to offer. We’re also seeing TV shows like The Traitors inspiring travel choices, with viewers eager to experience the dramatic scenery and atmosphere for themselves.”

“As many holidaymakers rethink their abroad travel plans, many are searching for last minute staycations in the UK instead, with Scotland standing out as a particularly appealing option. For travellers looking to feel a world away without leaving the UK, the Scottish Highlands offer breathtaking landscapes often compared to destinations such as Norway and Canada.”

“Whether people are looking for an active outdoor escape, with access to incredible hikes and walking trails, or a cultural break rich in history and heritage, Scotland offers something for every type of traveller, all set against some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery.”

Parkdean has three holiday parks positioned for exploring the Scottish Highlands and visiting locations associated with The Traitors. They include Tummel Valley, which has a woodland setting, and Nairn Lochloy, which offers a coastal setting.

Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame is about a 40 minute drive from the estate, offering visitors the option to stay in the Highlands while visiting the castle used in The Traitors.

The rise in searches comes as Celebrity Traitors prepares to return for its second series next week, suggesting renewed interest in Scottish breaks and attractions associated with the programme.
