Washington ranks as the top US state for plastic surgery interest, generating an average of 560 monthly searches per 100,000 residents, according to new research.
The study, conducted by Breast Reduction Surgeons of Long Island, analysed 300 search terms related to cosmetic surgery over the past 12 months to determine where interest is highest across the nation. Search phrases evaluated included terms such as “cost of tummy tuck”, “blepharoplasty near me”, and “rhinoplasty before and after”. The final ranking assessed average monthly searches for all keywords combined, relative to each state’s population.
California came 2nd overall, with an average of 509 monthly searches per 100,000 people, while New York ranked 3rd with 505. The Brazilian butt lift, commonly known as a BBL, emerged as the most searched cosmetic procedure in every state in the top 10.

Regional search trends and key procedures
Washington leads the nation with 43,728 total monthly searches. Across its population of nearly 8 million, the most popular procedure is the Brazilian butt lift, which transfers fat from other body areas to enhance buttock shape and size, registering 7,775 average monthly searches. The breast lift ranks 2nd, with 5,953 searches. The procedure raises and reshapes sagging breasts. Blepharoplasty ranks 3rd, with 3,925 searches, and involves removing excess eyelid skin and fat.
California records the highest overall search volume, at 198,320 monthly inquiries. Due to its larger population of almost 39 million, its per capita rate places it second. The state’s top searches are for the BBL, with 38,917 searches, followed by blepharoplasty with 19,875 and nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty, with 13,450.
New York generates 98,784 total average monthly searches. Against a population of 19,571,216, the state records 20,350 monthly searches for the Brazilian butt lift, followed by blepharoplasty at 10,708 searches and nose reshaping at 6,525 searches.
Utah places 4th with 16,907 total monthly searches. Across a population of 3,417,734, the Brazilian butt lift leads with 2,967 searches, followed by blepharoplasty with 1,525 searches, and breast augmentation with 1,415 searches. The procedure increases breast size using implants or fat transfer.
Nevada rounds out the top 5 with 15,739 total monthly searches. Serving a population of 3,194,176, the state’s top interests are the Brazilian butt lift, with 3,008 searches, followed by blepharoplasty with 1,350, and nose reshaping with 942.
Breast surgeries also attract substantial attention worldwide, with search interest for “breast surgery” increasing 69.5% since early 2023, according to Google Trends. Searches for “breast reduction surgery” have risen by 22% since December 2024. These figures align with the study, in which “breast lift” and “breast augmentation” rank among the top three procedures in five leading states, including Washington, Utah, Colorado, Florida, and Georgia.
Dr Ari Hoschander, Head Plastic Surgeon at Breast Reduction Surgeons of Long Island, commented on the findings: “Cosmetic procedures have become increasingly accessible and widely discussed, leading to a significant shift in how they are perceived and therefore a normalisation of these treatments among both public figures and the general population. What stands out is that Washington, not California or Florida, leads the country. This may reflect the growing accessibility of procedures in the Pacific Northwest and a shift away from the traditional cosmetic surgery hotspots.”
