Global Self-Care Federation Appoints New Chair to Strengthen Self-Care Integration Worldwide

Ed Petter, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Haleon, has officially assumed the role of Chair of the Global Self-Care Federation, succeeding Tamara Rogers, Chief Marketing Officer at Haleon.

Ed Petter will provide strategic leadership and oversight, driving the Federation’s mission to integrate self-care into the global health agenda and recognise it as a vital component of sustainable healthcare systems.

Tamara Rogers, who led the Federation through a period of significant advocacy, highlighted key achievements during her tenure. These included advancing the management of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), strengthening regulatory leadership, promoting quality harmonisation, and expanding and diversifying the network.

Rogers said: “Contributing to the work of the Global Self-Care Federation has been a privilege. During my term, we have advanced our mission to position self-care as an essential pillar of resilient, person-centred health systems. Guided by the launch of our new strategy, the Federation strengthened its foundations, expanded its global engagement, and delivered concrete impact across policy, regulatory, and partnership priorities. I am delighted to pass the baton to Ed, whose expertise and vision will be instrumental as the Federation enters its next phase of global impact.”

Accepting the role, Ed Petter emphasised collaboration and strengthening the global case for self-care. He stressed that self-care must deliver real impact for people and health systems worldwide.

“I am honoured to step into the leadership role at the Global Self-Care Federation in this pivotal moment. As we move toward 2030, our focus must be on accelerating the adoption of self-care practices that empower individuals, stabilise economies, and are protected from geopolitical shocks. We will continue to champion evidence-based solutions and work closely with global partners to ensure that self-care is not just an option, but a primary pillar of Universal Health Coverage.”

Greg Perry, Director General at the Federation, added: “As we look ahead, the Global Self-Care Federation remains focused on delivering the ambitions of the 2025–2028 Strategy, shaping global policy, convening partners and regulators, strengthening evidence, and equipping our members to advance self-care as a cornerstone of sustainable health agendas. I very much look forward to working with Ed on this.”

The appointment comes at a time when self-care is increasingly recognised as a key element in addressing global health challenges. According to the World Health Organization, self-care involves the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain well-being, and cope with illness, with or without the support of a healthcare provider. Experts note that self-care can reduce the burden on overstretched health systems, particularly in preventing and managing NCDs, which account for a significant portion of global mortality.

Industry leaders also highlight that consumer health companies, including Haleon, support self-care by providing accessible products and information that enable informed health decisions. Ed Petter brings extensive experience in corporate affairs, government relations, and reputation management, having joined Haleon’s executive team in January 2024 after senior roles at BT Group, Lloyds Banking Group, and McDonald’s.

Josephine Fubara, Chief Science Officer at Opella, was unanimously chosen as the next Chair Elect of the Federation and will begin her term in March 2027. The leadership transition reflects the Federation’s commitment to building a diverse and expert team to advance self-care internationally. With the 2025–2028 Strategy in place, the Federation will focus on influencing policy, generating evidence, and building partnerships to embed self-care more firmly within national and global health planning.
