British Couple Sets Sights on Fastest Bicycle Circumnavigation

British couple Amy and Kyle Hudson are preparing to attempt the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by bicycle as a pair. Supported by Santini Cycling, they plan to start in May 2026, aiming to complete the journey in 150–170 days and surpass the current record of 204 days. Their ride will also raise funds for Shout, the UK charity offering 24/7 text support for people facing mental health challenges.

United by love and cycling, the Hudsons are taking on this extreme challenge with a clear charitable goal. The project follows Amy’s successful Tour de France Challenge in 2025, when she covered 6,556 km in 29 days and raised £93,000 for Shout.

Amy explains, “The idea was born during a cycling trip from Venice to Derby in the UK, but it really took shape in August 2025, when I completed my Tour de France Challenge.”

She adds, “I’m so happy to be sharing this passion with Kyle. We’re both determined, motivated, and ready to push through hardship if it means reaching our goal. We believe you only live once, and that experiences are there to be lived to the fullest.”

Amy’s journey began during lockdown when Kyle bought her a bicycle during a particularly difficult period. Pedal by pedal, she rediscovered her strength and balance, eventually building a following on Instagram at @amy.cycling.adventures, where she shares how sport and cycling serve as tools for self-care.

Their round-the-world project is the natural evolution of Amy’s personal and charitable journey. “Cycling has helped me through difficult times,” she notes, inspiring many followers to explore outdoor exercise for mental well-being.

Preparing for the circumnavigation is demanding, especially for Kyle, who balances training with his full-time job as a builder. Their programme includes 2–3 high-intensity turbo sessions per week, long rides on weekends, and bikepacking trips across the UK to test their equipment and set-up.

Clothing and kit are critical for long-distance cycling. Santini Cycling provides versatile, high-performance technical apparel to handle diverse climates and limited luggage. Amy comments, “Having a brand like Santini behind us means the world. After supporting me during the Tour de France Challenge, Santini has once again proven to be the ideal choice for this adventure.”

The couple’s custom jersey is inspired by shooting stars. During the 2023 Paris–Brest–Paris, their first major endurance challenge together, Amy experienced saddle sores, and seeing a shooting star gave them motivation to continue. The symbol now represents hope, resilience, and persistence.

The Hudsons aim to complete the circumnavigation in 150–170 days, comfortably beating the existing record. Kyle explains, “If we manage to set the new record, we hope to inspire others. We want to show that we are often capable of far more than we believe, and that with determination and support, every challenge can be faced and overcome.”

Their planned route begins in France and travels through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Canada, the US, Portugal, and Spain. The self-supported journey will test both physical and mental resilience across varied terrains and climates, from European roads to Asian routes and long oceanic transport links.

Funds raised will directly support Shout’s 24/7 crisis text line, helping thousands of people facing mental health challenges. Training intensity remains high as the couple incorporates structured sessions to build endurance while managing daily commitments. Equipment versatility is essential, as multi-climate clothing solutions are critical for a journey with limited luggage. Their charity focus remains central, ensuring all funds directly benefit Shout, and the shooting star symbol continues to inspire persistence through hardship.

The Hudsons’ journey demonstrates how personal recovery through cycling can evolve into a large-scale adventure combining athletic achievement with charitable impact. Their record attempt highlights ultra-distance cycling and mental health awareness.
