British Boxer Balraj Khara Returns to the Ring Against Jose Aguirre in Harrow Showdown

British super-middleweight boxer Balraj Khara will return to the ring on 19th September when he takes on experienced Costa Rican fighter Jose Aguirre at Harrow Leisure Centre in London.

Born in Chichester and raised in Feltham, Khara turned professional in 2022 following a successful amateur career. The upcoming contest offers the third-generation British Sikh athlete a platform to continue his progress in the professional ranks while boosting South Asian representation in the sport.

Khara was born with a hearing impairment, a condition he credits with developing his elite concentration and composure under pressure. His story has drawn national attention, including coverage on Sky Sports.

“In boxing, distractions can make all the difference,” says Khara. “Most people see hearing loss as something that holds you back. I’ve always chosen to see it differently. It has taught me how to focus completely on the task in front of me. When I’m in the ring, everything narrows down to what matters most. That’s why I call it my superpower.”

“I want to show people that any challenge can become a strength if you approach it with the right mindset. Whether that’s hearing loss, setbacks in life, or obstacles in sport, we all have a choice about how we respond. That’s the message I hope people take from my journey.”

Now training at Ivybridge Boxing Club in Isleworth under head coach John Holland, Khara mentors younger fighters alongside his active career. He also works with the charity Rise and Thrive to raise awareness of child exploitation and encourage young people to realise their potential.

Facing Aguirre, nicknamed “El Perro”, provides Khara with a test against a veteran of more than 30 professional contests across multiple countries.

Khara said: “Every fight is a step forward. I’ve been working hard in the gym, improving every aspect of my game, and I’m looking forward to putting on a strong performance. Jose Aguirre brings experience and toughness, and that’s exactly the type of challenge I want. The fans can expect me to come prepared and ready to make a statement.”
