Analysis of the leading 5 positions

AI Agent Engineer

The study ranks this role first overall in the UK tech market. Pay has expanded rapidly over the past year, while high live listing volumes and candidate search traffic reflect significant interest from both employers and job seekers.

AI Engineer

The study ranks this role second, while it also offers one of the highest base salaries available. Consistent volumes between current openings and previous annual postings point to sustained enterprise demand rather than a temporary hiring spike.

AI Solutions Architect

The study ranks this role third after recording more than double the annual vacancy volume of most competing roles. Hiring momentum remains strong, with more than 1,000 listings currently open.

Generative AI Specialist

Represents a role where recruiter demand significantly outweighs search interest from applicants, suggesting lower competition for candidates entering the field.

AI Architect

Completes the top five and matches the top-ranked role on median salary. Moderate listing numbers and steady salary growth indicate reliable long-term value for experienced professionals.

James Owen, Co-founder and Director at Click Intelligence, commented on the study: “AI hiring in the UK is moving fast. Around 180K job postings required specialist AI skills in 2025, up 61% from the year before. This growth isn’t coming exclusively from people building AI systems, though. That shift is happening across industries, not just in tech. Financial services and the public sector are both bringing in AI talent now. And some reports show that workers who have these skills are already earning around 34% more than those who don’t.”
